The Darien District 61 Educational Foundation proudly recognizes Mike Bukovsky as the 2024 Great Starts in District 61 Honoree.  This award recognizes former students who – having had a “great start” in District 61 – are on exciting paths of learning, service, employment, and adventure in their lives.  This program is designed to provide inspiration to current District 61 students.

Mike attended Hinsbrook School (now Mark DeLay) and Eisenhower Junior High School for grades K-8.  He graduated from EJH in 1979.  He then graduated from Montini Catholic High School and North Central College.

This fall Mike will be starting his 36th year in education.  He has been with Montini Catholic High School for 31 years. Currently, he serves as the Admissions Director, Head Football Coach, and Assistant Softball Coach.  He has been recognized with numerous coaching awards.  Earlier this year he was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame. He has coached 16 High School State Championship teams.

He has many special memories of his time at Hinsbrook and Eisenhower.  He got his start in wrestling at EJH.  Mike’s advice to current students would be: “Stay positive, and don’t get down if things don’t go your way.  Listen to your teachers because they have your best interest in mind.  You are all very fortunate to be in great schools with people who really care about you.”

The Darien District 61 Educational Foundation is honored to recognize Mike Bukovsky as the 2024 Great Starts honoree and the exciting path he has taken since moving on from District 61.

Mike will be recognized when school resumes in the fall.
